Mazatlan first settlements date from 500 years. The city as a city, started developing in mid 1800's the commerce was established by European business men. (among them my grandfather from England). Mazatlan boasts a Historic Center which is now a Landmark. The architecture in old Mazatlan is 19th Century, among some of the architectural jewels you will find our very own Opera House also dates from the 19th Century. The city is very cultural and very frequently we have open air concerts right at the plaza where all these beautiful old buildings are. The Opera House "Angela Peralta" directors manage to bring singers and actors of  very high caliber.  Ballets, operas, plays, musicians, etc.

The main industry is Tourism and shrimp export. Fishing and hunting are still some of our main attractions. Mazatlan is also a very important and favorite city to celebrate different sports tournaments. They recently had the International Triathalon this past weekend. In the 1960's and 70's it was very popular among the Hollywood Crowd, the most notorious and very regular  visitor was John Wayne, also Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis, and many others.
